Sometime ago, I discovered an organization that was set up to give micro loans to people in less fortunate countries. The loans are provided and managed by local banks, but the money originates from Kiva supporter loans, and go towards things like new equipment, new ventures, etc. for people requiring a hand. They are not looking for charity, but rather a bit of a break.
The loans are small, and you combine your small amount with others until the borrower achieves their goal. They then pay you back on a schedule, all through your PayPal account.
When the money is repaid, you have that money available again to loan to someone else, or to donate, or to take back.
The amazing thing about this is the extremely high repayment statistics. It goes to show you that sometimes all someone needs is a helping hand. If life has been good to you, pay it forward. You will be amazed at how excited you will become to help a stranger in another country with something that seems so insignificant to you or I, yet, it could be the difference between a borrower feeding and not feeding their family.
